The reserve car park is to the north of Ellingham Drove, the car park to the south is for the education centre. Car park opens at 9 am. We meet at 9.30 am outside the education centre.

Blashford Lakes Nature Reserve is 360 acres of grassland and woodland surrounding former gravel pits. There is also a stream flowing through ancient oak and beech woodland. Wildlife is very diverse.

There are six hides, ten lakes, five miles of rolled gravel footpaths, bird feeders, toilets, no food but two nearby pubs. Free but donations requested.

The lakes will have wildfowl and a variety of gulls. The woodlands should yield the normal woodland birds.

In early April we may also see spring flowers, toad and frog, or even a bank vole. Reported in early April 2016 were chiffchaff, blackcap, little ringed plover, shoveler, wigeon, goldeneye, slavonian grebe, lapwing, long-tailed tit, robin, willow warbler, wheatear, little gull, common tern, shelduck, garganey, sedge warbler, siskin, cuckoo, reed warbler, swallow, house martin, brambling, brimstone, peacock, speckled wood, comma, small tortoiseshell, grass snake, adder, otter, rabbit.
