Moor Green Lakes 2020
Saturday morning walk

Date: Saturday 18 January 2020 at 09:30

Details:

On a very cold, frosty but sunny morning 18 people turned out. There were blue tits, great tits, nuthatches and coal tits to be seen on the feeders in the car park.

Moving on from the car park towards the Colebrook lakes, we saw gadwalls, shovelers and wigeon but the only waders seen were lapwings.

On the feeder just off the footpath there were reed buntings, chaffinches and squirrels.

Walking along the River Blackwater footpath to Grove Lake we saw goosanders, little egret and grey herons. The sun was shining on the lake which gave us really good views of the plumage on the goosanders.

We back-tracked along the river to the Manor Farm lakes where there was not much to see. Buzzards overhead and common gulls on one of the muddy islands, where Cemex are filling in one of the old gravel pits.

Making our way back to the car park we saw long-tailed tits, siskin and stock dove. The paths were rather wet in places because of all the recent rain.

The number of species seen by the group was 52.
