SUNDAY MORNING OUTING to Otmoor RSPB Reserve, Oxon

Otmoor RSPB Reserve - view from new hide
Otmoor
6th May 2012
After many wet days it was good to meet on a dry if rather
cold morning. There were 20 brave birders and the sun did come out later on and
so did the birds.
We made our way from the car park to the new hide. This has
very good access and looks out over part of the marshland. It was extremely wet
for May.
We then made our way along to the viewing points and saw a Cuckoo
in the distance.
There was a wide variety of different birds including Long Tailed
Tits, Lapwings, Wheatears, Reed Buntings, Sedge Warblers, Linnets and Swifts.
There was also a Curlew and a Great Crested Grebe. My favourite birds were the
Whinchats and the Whitethroats.
There were Hobby’s flying around and one member saw as many as 10 at the same time.
Apart from the birds we also saw hares, deer and rabbits. It was good to see so many hares as they are becoming quite rare.
We saw just over 60 bird species which was really very good.
A good mornings birding was had by all.
