Dinton Pastures 2015
Wednesday morning walk

Date: Wednesday 23 September 2015 at 09:30

Details:

After two days of rain it was good to see some fine sunny weather, which brought out 26 people.

We left the car park at Dinton Pastures and walked along the side of White Swan Lake to Sandford Lake and Sandford hide, where we saw Mallard, Gadwall, Tufted Ducks and Cormorants.

Leaving Sandford hide, we saw Siskin, Goldfinches and  Blackcaps. On the way to Lea Farm hide, along the River Loddon, we saw Hobby, Sparrowhawk and Red Kite. There were Nuthatch, Blue Tit and Great Tits on the feeders by the hide, Reed Bunting and Sedge Warbler from the hide.

We then went to the Bittern hide for an eclipse male Red-crested Pochard, also hearing Cetti's Warblers. A Green Woodpecker was seen and some saw a Snipe on the island at Lavell's Lake.

From the Bittern hide we crossed the road hoping to see the Spotted Flycatcher but it was not there, just a Great Spotted Woodpecker.

It was then time to walk back to the main car park via the duck feeding area.  Coffee and snacks at the Dragonfly Café for many of us, having seen 46 different species.
