Otmoor RSPB Reserve 2016
Sunday morning walk

Date: Sunday 15 May 2016 at 09:30

Details:

On a sunny Sunday in May, 21 people arrived at Otmoor. From the car park we could hear Turtle Dove and Cuckoo. We walked a short distance to see three Turtle Doves on the telegraph wires. We walked down towards the feeders where there were Goldfinches and Greenfinches. Sedge Warblers, Reed Warblers and Reed Buntings were calling everywhere. In the distance was a Hobby on a post and on the ground a single Snipe. Flying over was a Common Tern. At the hide we saw Greenshank, Redshank, Lapwings and the usual Greylag and Canada Geese.

Grasshopper Warblers were seen on the way to the first screen - a photographic opportunity for some.

From the screen - Great Crested Grebe, Pochard, Shoveler, Tufted Duck, Grey Heron, Little Grebe and in the distance Marsh Harrier and at least five Hobbies. No lizards were visible at the Lizard Hotel but a fine Grass Snake had been seen earlier.

On the way back we saw Lesser Whitethroats and Whitethroats and flying over were two Ravens. We arrived back at the car park about 12.30 when some people retired to the White Hart in Notting Hill for refreshment. As a group we saw 61 species.
