Reports, with Bird Lists, of our Meetings, Walks and Outings
Little Marlow Gravel Pits 2017
New Year's Day morning walk
On a rather damp overcast morning, with rain forecast for 12 noon, we all met up in the Spade Oak car park for the annual New Year walk around Marlow Gravel Pits.
We left the car park and walked towards the River Thames where we saw Egyptian Geese, Great Crested Grebe and the usual Mallard and Tufted ducks on the river.
Walking along the river, then turning right towards the gravel pits, we saw Fieldfare and Buzzard as we crossed the railway line to the gravel pit.
There were large flocks of Gulls, Lapwings and Greylag Geese and also good views of Snipe.
Leaving the gravel pit and walking up the road we also saw a small flock of Siskin and Goldcrest and some were lucky enough to see Kingfisher and Nuthatch.
Walking back through the area where they have taken down the trees it was very quiet and very little was seen here.
Although it was muddy under foot all 27 people had a good morning bird watching for the first meeting of the year. The total number of birds seen by the group was 57
