TUESDAY ALL DAY OUTING to Tring and Weston Turville Reservoirs

Date: Tuesday 4 October 2011 at 09:30

Details:

Weston Turville reservoir

With the weather turning colder and a strong wind, 7 members met in the Startops End car park.  Climbing the steps to the bank, 2 male and 1 female Red-crested Pochards were located with Great Crested  and Little Grebe together with the usual waterfowl.  Crossing to Tringford reservoir, Pied Wagtail, Long-tailed Tits and Skylark were added to the list with Comma and Red Admiral butterflies active.  At the hide, Kingfisher, Teal, Wigeon and Pochard were seen. Walking along the causeway between Startops and Marsworth, passerines were obvious before returning to the cafe for refreshments.  By car to Wilstone reservoir where the water level was very low but Shoveler, Gadwall, Little Egret, Swallow, Buzzard and a pair of Whooper Swans were added.

A quick visit to a very quiet Weston Turville reservoir did not add to the list and with the sun appearing, we left for home.  The trip produced a total of 48 species with nothing too unexpected.
