WEDNESDAY MORNING OUTING to Burnham Beeches, Bucks

Date: Wednesday 11 January 2012 at 09:30

Details:

Burnham Beeches - Ancient woodland

On a warm sunny morning, 25 members of the group met up in the Car Park at Burnham Beeches. The temperature was a pleasant 8⁰ C. The sun was shining in a light blue sky. We saw a good selection of woodland birds. Unusually for our area, no one spotted a Red Kite. There were 24 different species on the list at the end of the trip. We saw a Sparrow hawk which was the only raptor on the list. We heard jays screeching. We heard the yaffle of the Green Woodpecker. Burnham Beeches is very popular with dog walkers.

The Mandarin Ducks on the pond looked quite stunning in the excellent light we enjoyed. We did not see any special rarities but walking through such beautiful ancient woods on such a perfect day was a spirit lifting experience.
