Talks and Slide Shows

Our Thursday evening talks are normally held once a month at the Methodist Church Hall, High Street, Maidenhead (click here for a map) starting 7.30 pm. Entrance is £1 (£2 for non-members) which includes tea & coffee etc. Everyone is welcome particularly if you are a beginner or new to the area. An informative explanation of the mysteries of bird migration by the well-known author of best-selling ornithological books.  Dominic will examine the facts and misconceptions concerning this amazing subject. He will examine the various types of migration and will include information to improve your own migration watching techniques.  Expect an amusing and informative evening.

A Kenyan Safari
Mike Read

Mike is a professional photographer, writer, tour guide and lecturer. He will take us on a journey through Kenya with its great variety and concentration of wildlife. We will see amazing photographs from the Kenyan National Parks concentrating on birds and mammals.

The Natural Quarry
David Boag

David will give a lively and entertaining presentation explaining how his doubts at being invited to photograph the wildlife in a working quarry were soon dispelled.  He will show us how wildlife adapts throughout the seasons and the fact that some birds prefer the quarry to the surrounding farmland.  Illustrated by David’s exceptional photographs.

Wildlife Riches of Costa Rica
Ann and Bob Scott

A very welcome return to the well-respected ornithologists, Ann  and Bob Scott who will take us on a wildlife trip through Costa Rica. Over 870 species of bird are found here (one tenth of the world’s total) in a country half the size of Kentucky.  This presentation is bound to whet your appetite for a visit to the South American State.
