A few years ago we took part in a campaign to protect the nightingales of Lodge Hill SSSI in Kent. Although that campaign was a success, the site is once again under threat.

The local council is now (2017) consulting on where new housing should go and Lodge Hill is included. Would you help the Nightingales and stop a dangerous precedent being set for England's protected sites?

Medway Council wants to allocate Lodge Hill for housing which would help pave the way for one of the largest ever losses of protected site in Britain. This potential destruction is simply not acceptable and will set a dangerous precedent throughout England. We're calling for people to take action.

Lodge Hill is the only nightingale SSSI in the UK, but the Ministry of Defence are planning to build 5,000 houses there.  This would be a disaster for the nightingales and a terrible precedent for the protection of all the other SSSI.  We need to get Eric Pickles, the Minister with overall responsibility for housing decisions, to 'call in' this application and block it.  The RSPB has the details here.

An internet page has been set up for you send your personal email to Eric Pickles.

Do it now.  Eric Pickles is an RSPB member.
