APRIL 2012 - WE NEED A NEW GROUP LEADER
A personal message from Group Leader, Gerry Studd
At the AGM in April 2012, I will have completed my 5 year appointment as Leader of the Group. I have, sadly, decided not to seek re-election as I feel that a new face will introduce fresh ideas and will be necessary to continue the Group’s future progress. It has been a privilege and pleasure to lead the Group and I will continue to give my full support, but from the background rather than from a front-line position.
Unfortunately, none of the present Committee is able to offer themselves for election as Leader in 2012. Thus, I am appealing for someone from the membership to come forward and offer their services as Leader for election in April 2012. It may be possible for two members to share the post with agreement from Committee and RSPB. It would be sensible to join the Committee in the first instance to become familiar with the day-to-day running of the Group. Both the indoor and outdoor programme for 2012/2013 will have been organised and ready for distribution by this date.
If a Leader cannot be found, then the Group may continue to run with a Treasurer and the Committee (with one person prepared to receive communications from the RSPB) for one year only. If a Leader is not appointed within that period, then the Group will be closed and all its assets returned to the RSPB. What a tragedy this would be for a Group approaching its 40th year of existence!
Please consider very carefully the desperate position that the Group could be in and offer your services as Leader. I have included an article from a Leader of another Group who was in a similar position to myself, which clearly details the role of a Group Leader.
If you are unsure about anything, require more details, or wish to have a personal chat with me, I’d be only too willing to meet you at a venue and time of your choice. Please contact me:
