Putting wildlife at the heart of our gardens.

The Wild Maidenhead group have launched a scheme to make our gardens more wildlife friendly. They want us to  do more for wildlife in our gardens to provide our flora and fauna with a rich and diverse home.

The new Wild About Gardens Awards Scheme aims to help people value the contribution of wildlife in their gardens – and to do that across our whole community.  Wild Maidenhead are especially keen to encourage younger residents to take interest in the natural world.

The scheme was piloted in Cookham in 2018. Currently the scheme is only open to private gardens but it is hoped to extend the scheme to categories such as balconies, community gardens and business grounds in future years.

Bisham, Bray, Cookham, Cox Green, Holyport, Hurley, Knowl Hill, Maidenhead, Pinkneys Green, Waltham St Lawrence and White Waltham are included in the scheme. It is planned to extend the scheme to other local areas in the future.

Wild About Gardens is not a competition: it is a certification scheme based on the self-assessment check list of twenty-four different garden features. All help wildlife and many can easily be added to help your garden qualify.
